Haji Tamattu(حَجّ التَّمَتُّع) Haji Tamattu (enjoyment Haji) is a type of ibadah haji where the jamaah haji performs Umrah first, exits Ihram, then enters Ihram again for Haji during the same trip. It requires a thanksgiving sacrifice (Hady).
حَجّ التَّمَتُّع
Haji Tamattu is the most common type of Haji performed today and is considered the easiest for jamaah haji. The process begins when the jamaah haji enters Ihram at the Miqat with the intention of Umrah during the Haji months (Shawwal, Dhul Qa'dah, or Dzulhijjah). They perform Umrah (Tawaf, sa'i, and Halq/Taqsir), then fully exit the state of Ihram, returning to normal life — wearing regular clothes, using perfume, and engaging in all boleh activities. This period of normalcy is the 'enjoyment' (Tamattu) that gives this type its name. On the 8th of Dzulhijjah (Yawm al-Tarwiyah), the jamaah haji re-enters Ihram for Haji from their accommodation in Mekkah and proceeds with all the Haji rites. Because the jamaah haji benefits from performing both Umrah and Haji in a single journey (saving the effort of a separate trip for Umrah), a Hady sacrifice is required as a thanksgiving to Allah. If they cannot afford the sacrifice, they fast three days during Haji and seven days after returning home. Nabi sunnah Tamattu to his companions, saying, 'Had I known what I know now, I would not have brought a sacrificial animal and would have made it Umrah.'
