| Arabic | يَوْم التَّرْوِيَة |
|---|---|
| Pronunciation | YAWM at-tar-WEE-yah |
| Etymology | Tarwiyah (تروية) derives from the root ر-و-ي (r-w-y), meaning 'to quench thirst' or 'to water.' Historically, হাজীগণ would fill their water containers on this day in preparation for the days ahead in the desert. Some scholars suggest it means 'deliberation,' as Ibrahim deliberated about his dream of sacrificing Ismail on this day. |
Yawm al-Tarwiyah(يَوْم التَّرْوِيَة) Yawm al-Tarwiyah is the 8th of Dhul Hijjah, marking the beginning of the main হজ্জ rites. Pilgrims enter ইহরাম for হজ্জ and travel to মিনা where they spend the night in preparation for the Day of আরাফাত.
يَوْم التَّرْوِيَة
On Yawm al-Tarwiyah, হাজীগণ performing হজ্জ Tamattu who had exited ইহরাম after their উমরাহ now re-enter ইহরাম for হজ্জ from their accommodations in মক্কা মুকাররমা. Those performing হজ্জ Ifrad or Qiran are already in ইহরাম. After praying Fajr, হাজীগণ depart for মিনা, the tent city located approximately 5 kilometers east of মক্কা মুকাররমা. In মিনা, হাজীগণ pray the five daily সালাতs, shortening the four-rak'ah সালাতs (Dhuhr, Asr, and Isha) to two rak'ahs each but performing each সালাত at its proper time without combining. The night is spent in worship, reflection, and preparation for the most important day of হজ্জ — the standing at আরাফাত. This is a day of spiritual preparation, and হাজীগণ are encouraged to occupy themselves with তালবিয়াহ, dhikr, and dua. The stay at মিনা on this day is considered Sunnah, not Wajib, জমহুর উলামাদের মতে.
