بِسْمِ اللَّهِ
The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: 'There is no wudu for the one who does not mention the name of Allah upon it.'
Before starting wudu, say: 'Bismillah' — In the name of Allah. Some scholars consider it obligatory to say Bismillah before wudu based on the hadith: 'There is no wudu for one who does not mention the name of Allah upon it.' This simple declaration sanctifies the act of purification.
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ
Bismillah.
Meaning: In the name of Allah.
Source: Sunan Abu Dawud #101Beginning wudu with Bismillah connects the physical act of purification with spiritual intention. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: 'There is no prayer without purification' (Sahih Muslim 224). Wudu itself is an act of worship — sins fall away with each limb washed, and the one who perfects wudu will have their limbs shining with light on the Day of Judgment.
