The Haramain High-Speed Train (HHR) is a modern, comfortable way to travel between Makkah and Madinah, covering the distance in approximately 2-2.5 hours at speeds up to 300 km/h. The train features air-conditioned carriages, comfortable seating, WiFi, luggage storage, and prayer areas. Tickets range from 150-300 SAR depending on the class (economy or business). The stations are modern and well-connected to local transport.
Bus services between Makkah and Madinah (operated by SAPTCO and other companies) take 4-5 hours via the highway and cost 50-100 SAR. Buses are air-conditioned and comfortable for the price, but the journey is significantly longer and subject to traffic delays, especially during Hajj season when road congestion is severe. For pilgrims who value time and comfort, the train is clearly superior despite the higher cost. For budget-conscious pilgrims or those who cannot secure train tickets, buses are a perfectly viable alternative. During peak Hajj season, book train tickets well in advance through the HHR app or website, as seats sell out quickly.
