For a good ending, recite: 'Allahumma inni as'aluka husnal-khatimah' and 'Allahumma ahyini 'alal-Islam wa amitni 'alal-Islam' — O Allah, grant me a good ending. O Allah, let me live as a Muslim and die as a Muslim. Hajj is the best time to ask for this, as the pilgrim returns as pure as the day they were born.
اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ حُسْنَ الْخَاتِمَةِ. اللَّهُمَّ أَحْيِنِي عَلَى الْإِسْلَامِ وَأَمِتْنِي عَلَى الْإِسْلَامِ
Allahumma inni as'aluka husnal-khatimah. Allahumma ahyini 'alal-Islam wa amitni 'alal-Islam.
Meaning: O Allah, I ask You for a good ending. O Allah, let me live upon Islam and let me die upon Islam.
Source: Musnad Ahmad #12107The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: 'Actions are judged by their endings' (Sahih al-Bukhari 6607). A person's entire life is defined by how they meet Allah — upon faith or without it. The scholars say that seeking husn al-khatimah should be among a Muslim's most frequent duas. During Hajj, this dua carries special weight, as the accepted pilgrim returns free of sin like a newborn.
اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ حُسْنَ الْخَاتِمَةِ. اللَّهُمَّ أَحْيِنِي عَلَى الْإِسْلَامِ وَأَمِتْنِي عَلَى الْإِسْلَامِ
The Prophet (peace be upon him) frequently used to say: 'Ya Muqallibal-qulub, thabbit qalbi 'ala dinik.' When asked why, he said: 'The hearts are between two fingers of the Most Merciful, He turns them however He wills. If He wills, He keeps a servant firm, and if He wills, He deviates him.'
