Smoking is banned inside both holy mosques and camps, with fines up to SAR 200. Most scholars rule smoking as haram, especially during ihram.
Smoking is completely prohibited inside and around both Masjid al-Haram and Masjid al-Nabawi, including courtyards and surrounding pedestrian areas. It is also banned in Mina tents, Arafat encampments, Muzdalifah, and the Jamarat area. Fines can reach SAR 200.
From a religious perspective, the majority of contemporary scholars rule smoking as haram due to its clear harm to health. During ihram, smoking is strongly discouraged even by those who permit it otherwise.
Many scholars encourage using Hajj as motivation to quit permanently. Consider nicotine patches or gum (permitted during ihram) to manage cravings. Pharmacies in Makkah and Madinah stock cessation aids.
