مسجد الجمعة
Masjid al-Jummah marks the location where Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) performed the first Jummah (Friday) prayer during his migration from Makkah to Madinah. Located in the Ranuna valley between Quba and central Madinah, the Prophet stopped here when Friday prayer time arrived during his journey from Quba to Madinah, leading about 100 Muslims in prayer.
After spending several days at Quba upon his arrival from Makkah, the Prophet (PBUH) set out toward central Madinah on a Friday. When the time for prayer arrived, he was in the Ranuna valley in the area of Banu Salim ibn Awf. He stopped and led the first Friday prayer in Islamic history, delivering a khutbah to about 100 companions. This established the institution of Jummah prayer as a weekly congregational obligation. The mosque built at this location commemorates that historic prayer.
Masjid al-Jummah commemorates the establishment of Friday congregational prayer, one of the most important weekly institutions in Islam. The first Jummah prayer and khutbah represent the beginning of organized Muslim community life in Madinah, a foundational moment in Islamic history.
Masjid al-Jummah is located along the road between Masjid Quba and Masjid an-Nabawi, making it easy to include in a Quba visit. The mosque is relatively small but well-maintained. There are no specific rituals associated with visiting. It is a regular functioning mosque where daily prayers are held. The historical significance makes it a worthwhile stop for those interested in seerah (prophetic biography). Some organized ziyarah tours include this mosque in their itinerary.
