The time of standing at Arafat extends from noon on the 9th until dawn of the 10th of Dhul Hijjah. If a pilgrim arrives at Arafat after sunset but before dawn of the 10th, his Hajj is valid. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: 'Hajj is Arafat. Whoever reaches Arafat on the night of Jam (Muzdalifah) before dawn, has caught Hajj' (Sunan al-Tirmidhi 889, graded sahih by al-Albani). However, standing at Arafat only during the night — without being present during any daytime hours — requires a fidyah according to the majority.
