Should a person postpone Hajj to pay off debt first?

If a person has debts, whether it is obligatory to perform Hajj or to pay the debt first depends on the creditor's consent and the debt timeline. Sheikh Ibn Uthaymeen stated: 'If the debt is due immediately and the creditor does not consent to the delay, paying the debt takes priority over Hajj.' However, if the debt has a long repayment schedule and the creditor has not demanded immediate payment, the person may perform Hajj. The Permanent Committee ruled: 'Hajj is only obligatory upon the one who is able, and being free from pressing debt is part of that ability.'
