Luxury hotels provide same-day service with pickup and delivery to your room, typically charging 10 to 25 SAR per item. Mid-range hotels often have a laundry price list in the room and provide laundry bags for collection, with turnaround of 12 to 24 hours. Budget hotels may offer more basic services or direct you to nearby external laundromats. During Hajj season, hotel laundry services can become overwhelmed with demand, leading to longer turnaround times and occasional lost items. It is advisable to submit laundry early in your stay and avoid submitting your only set of clean clothes with no backup. Always count your items before submitting and check them upon return.

Small laundry and pressing shops are common in the commercial areas surrounding both Masjid al-Haram and Masjid an-Nabawi. These local establishments typically charge 3 to 10 SAR per item for washing and ironing, making them significantly cheaper than hotel services. Many are run by South Asian workers who speak basic English, Arabic, and often Urdu or Hindi. Turnaround is usually same-day if submitted in the morning, or next-day for afternoon submissions. Some shops offer express service for a premium. These laundromats are easy to spot — look for shops with stacks of folded white ihram garments in the window. For ihram garments specifically, many shops near the Haram specialize in washing, bleaching, and ironing the two white cloths. Keep your receipt and note the shop's location carefully, as the streets around the Haram can be confusing to navigate.

Many experienced pilgrims minimize laundry needs by packing quick-dry, moisture-wicking fabrics that can be hand-washed in the hotel bathroom and dried overnight. Synthetic fabrics like polyester, nylon, and merino wool blends dry much faster than cotton. Pack a small tube of travel laundry detergent or soap sheets for hand-washing. After washing, wring garments thoroughly in a towel, then hang them in the bathroom or near the room's air conditioning unit, which accelerates drying. Ihram garments (the two white unstitched cloths) are made from cotton or cotton-polyester blend and can be easily hand-washed and dried within a few hours in Makkah's dry climate. Hanging garments on the balcony or near an open window works well in the arid Saudi climate. Packing 3 to 4 sets of underwear and socks and rotating through them with nightly hand-washing is an effective strategy that minimizes luggage while maintaining hygiene.
