তাওয়াফ al-Qudum(طَوَاف القُدُوم) তাওয়াফ al-Qudum (Arrival তাওয়াফ) is the circumambulation of the কাবা শরীফ performed as a greeting upon arriving in মক্কা মুকাররমা. It is a Sunnah for হজ্জ হাজীগণ (Ifrad and Qiran) but not required for Tamattu হাজীগণ who perform উমরাহ তাওয়াফ instead.
طَوَاف القُدُوم
তাওয়াফ al-Qudum serves as the হাজী's first act of devotion upon entering the sacred city of মক্কা মুকাররমা, comparable to the greeting সালাত (Tahiyyat al-Masjid) offered when entering a মসজিদ. It is specifically associated with হজ্জ Ifrad and হজ্জ Qiran হাজীগণ, as Tamattu হাজীগণ perform the তাওয়াফ of their উমরাহ upon arrival instead. The Shafi'i school considers it a Sunnah, the Maliki school considers it Wajib for those entering from outside the Miqat boundaries, and the Hanafi and Hanbali schools consider it Sunnah. During তাওয়াফ al-Qudum, male হাজীগণ practice two additional Sunnahs: Raml (walking briskly with short steps) during the first three circuits, and Idtiba (exposing the right shoulder). These practices are specific to this তাওয়াফ and তাওয়াফ of উমরাহ, not to তাওয়াফ al-Ifadah. After the seven circuits, the হাজী prays two rak'ahs behind Maqam Ibrahim and drinks Zamzam water. If a হাজী arrives in মক্কা মুকাররমা close to the time of Wuquf at আরাফাত, they may skip তাওয়াফ al-Qudum and proceed directly.
Qudum (قدوم) from the root ق-د-م (q-d-m) means 'arrival' or 'coming.' তাওয়াফ al-Qudum literally means 'the তাওয়াফ of Arrival,' identifying it as the circumambulation performed upon first coming to মক্কা মুকাররমা.
